What “follow-up” actually means
If your clinic has given you a companion app, follow-up is simply the way you and your care team stay connected between visits. Here’s what that looks like in practice.
Starting a weight-management programme can feel like a lot happens at the first appointment, and then very little until the next one. Follow-up is the part in between. It’s how your care team keeps an eye on how you’re getting on, and how you reach them without waiting for your next visit.
It’s a two-way connection, not a tracker
A lot of health apps let you log numbers and then leave you to it. A follow-up companion is different: it’s given to you by the same clinic looking after you, so the people who can actually help can see how your week has gone. When you check in, your care team sees the same picture you do.
- A short weekly check-in. It takes under a minute.
- Your progress over time, in one place, so you always know where you are.
- A way to message your care team and book your next appointment without phone tag.
What it isn’t
The app doesn’t make clinical decisions and it isn’t medical advice. It supports your care team. It never replaces them. Anything that needs a clinical judgement is made by a real person on that team, not by the software.
If something doesn’t feel right, you don’t need to wait for a check-in. Contact your care team through the app, and in an urgent situation call 111, or 999 in an emergency.
